spn_cinema Art: Threshold [Corpse Bride]

Title: Threshold
Artist: [ profile] sagetan
Movie Prompt: Corpse Bride
Pairing: Sam&Dean
Rating: PG-13 for some blood and missing flesh
Notes: Thank you to the [ profile] spn_cinema mods for running such a fun challenge! I had big plans for a whole slew of illustrations perverting matrimonial traditions with zombies and dangly limbs, but in the end I only had time for this. Hope you enjoy it anyhow!

this is quite creepy (i mean, corpse!sam is pretty creepifying, with his fleshy limbs and his skeleton limbs) but also strikes me as kind of sad. i like it, tho - i mean, weddings involving at least one dead person definitely fit the show.

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Creepy is the best compliment, I am delighted you think so! I laughed at weddings involving at least one dead person definitely fit the show. So true. Thank you! <3

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 04:42 pm (UTC)(link)
love it *_*

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hee, thank you! :D

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Creepy, yet beautiful. I love it.

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! <3

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Great work. It's really grim but beautiful. I especially like the lines of Sam's muscles and skeleton under the cloth.

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I figured a Supernatural-style 'bride' wouldn't be exactly pretty or wholesome, heh. I'm very pleased you like the effect, since I wasn't planning on making the shroud translucent at first. Thank you! <3

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:01 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, zombies! You're my hero :) Gonna go look for more of your art because I love your style.

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Zombies make everything better! :D Oh, thanks so much! There isn't much to find I'm afraid, but I do hope you like what you see <3

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
This is beautiful (albeit super creepy lol) and the coloring especially is gorgeous

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha, hope the creepy isn't too awful. I'm very happy to hear the coloring works for you, since I spent a lot of time waffling over it. Thank you! :D

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, this is fantastic! Kudos! It's hauntingly beautiful, and I would love to read the story behind this. I also see Sam/Dean here, just from the look you put on Dean's face.

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! I would also be interested in learning the story behind this, since I haven't got a clue what might have led to this XD I'm very flattered Dean's expression conveys that! I meant to leave this open to interpretation, but in my head everything is always the epic love story of Sam and Dean ;P

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. I don't usually like art that creeps me out, but this is really powerful and really, really sad. You did an incredible job, especially with Sam--there's this perfect balance between realism (I swear I could run my fingers over that fabric and the skeleton bones are so detailed!) and your own artistic style. Really, really cool piece!

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry for creeping you out, but thanks so much for checking this out even if it's not usually your thing! I'm really happy the fabric came out okay and I'm delighted to hear the style works for you. :D Thanks so much for the sweet comment! <3

Wow. Beautiful!

Oooh, this is hauntingly beautiful. I love the texture and how Jensen is looking right at us. Great work:)

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm very happy you think so. Thanks so much! <3

Ah, I really should have said this was meant to be the Winchesters... I would feel terrible for putting Jared and Jensen in this position! XD

I love that I'm creeping everyone out XD Thanks so much!

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! What a zombie!

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahahaha, yes. Go Team Zombie! Thanks for commenting :D

[identity profile] 2011-05-15 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I really love just about everything about this from their expressions, the color palette, the textures, to even the typography. The way you simplified the background and showed us just enough to visualize the graveyard behind them is really effective.

eta: So I clicked on your art tag and noticed you already had me friended. Sorry, I'm really bad about these things. *friends back*

I'm super flattered you think so, and I'm relieved to hear the background doesn't come off as lazy! Thanks so much :D

Ah, no problem! I'm delighted you liked this enough to go check out the rest <3

Oh this is lovely ♥ I love the sheerness of the fabric and the details of the bones :D The coloring is excellent and your lineart is so perfectly suited to the atmosphere of this piece ♥

[identity profile] 2011-05-16 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I'm super happy you think so <3 Many, many references needed to be consulted in the drawing of the bones, just to get an idea of what goes where XD

[identity profile] 2011-05-16 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
That is absolutely stunning.

[identity profile] 2011-05-16 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! :D

OMG!!!! THIS IS THE CREEPIEST THING I HAVE SEEN this year!!!! jeez....I have goosebumps and shivers running down my spine... it's just... creepy, but oh my God soo awesome!
and do I see STULL CEMETERY there!? isn't that the cemetery in Swan Song!? omg if it is, yeah.. this pic just got a million times more creepy and SAD!!!

and I loooove Dean looking right at us.. that just makes the pic even more sad because...aww Dean, 's like you can see his pain! Dean having to carry his brother like that... *shivers*

and poor Sammy....

you did an amazing job with this one... those blue spots on Sam is something I first noticed on the pic, heh... is it because Hell was cold?! :)) LOL

yeah just... love this pic.. 's creepy as hell! did I mention that already!? CREEPY!!!!

[identity profile] 2011-05-16 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Creeping people out is like candy to me :DDDD It delights me to no end that this creeped you out so much! And I mean that in a well-balanced, not serial-killing way.

That is, indeed, Stull Cememtery! It's awesome that you noticed. Sam is blue because he's a zombie, and zombies can't have normal skin colour, they gotta be green or blue or everything more. But the Hell explanation pleases me muchly too :)

Thanks so much for your awesome comment, seriously <3333

This is so awesomely amazing and gorgeous and creepy at the same time! It has a very Edgar Allen Poe sort of feel to me. Beautiful work! ♥

I love love love Edgar Allen Poe, that is a compliment of the highest order! Thank you so much <3333

Beautiful and haunting, and oh goodness Dean's bloody knuckles. I love the shroud, and Dean's expression. Thank you so much!

[identity profile] 2011-05-18 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a thing for knuckles and for blood. Solution: bloody knuckles! :D Thank you for the awesome comment <3

I love the skeletal bones of Sam's leg and arm, their pose, the subdued colours and Dean's expression (so much emotion). You have a great style!

[identity profile] 2011-05-18 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks so much! I appreciate your very specific feedback, it's awesome to hear <3

I had to fudge around with the colours a little for it to show up right on LJ, I'm glad it works :D
